So long, Java! How Sun
screwed itself by suing Microsoft |
MS VERSUS JAVA: Ouch. Microsoft is
withdrawing support for Sun's supposedly 'revolutionary' programming language. I don't
blame Microsoft, though. Why? You see, Sun bought into its own hype--and in the process
became a living lesson to that old saw: Be careful what you wish for....
Ben's Note: I hope that the author is mistaken here, but
I'm afraid he may be right. It wouldn't be the first time a superior product was
supplanted by another due to poor marketing strategy. Remember the Betamax format

7/19/01 - NOTE: I Found out when I published my advanced function
pages (feedback, search, etc.) that my Internet service provider doesn't seem to support
the Microsoft FrontPage DLL's that the pages need. I'll leave these pages in place
with the "under constuction" icon and see if I can find another way to do all
the same things that did work so well on my test bed! Sorry, I worked hard to get rid of
all the unfinished components before I published! I sure wasn't counting on this...

8/13/01 - I have removed the information request forms on most of the
pages since no solution to the above problem appears to be in sight. I have replaced
these forms with email links which, presumably, will work just as well (if not better!)
for most folks. This at least makes the site seem mostly constructed. |
